Bendarian Brain Borer

The Bendarian Brain Borer is a small, leech-like creature found in the fungal forests of Bendaria, the planet nearest to the star Idris. Bendaria is shielded from the intense radiation of its star by a thick, reflective atmosphere prone to powerful electrical storms. The Brain Borer lives in hives mostly in the gills of the smaller carnivorous mushrooms. It is a small creature, six inches in length with a slimy, lumpy body that tapers off at the rear. It has a "mouth" which is a ring of teeth surrounding a long, sinuous "tongue". They also have stubby feet in 4-5 sets of two. They hunt by hiding in the undergrowth not far from their home, usually a small mushroom 5 feet in diameter just visible above the grass-like molds. These mushrooms have a spongy substance growing on their cap, which the Borers use as hives. They will leap out from their hive by quickly flicking their bodies rather like a spring. After latching on with the teeth, they inject a powerful paralizing agent, then crawl up to the head and latch on again. Their "tongues" will then burrow into the victim's brain using a sharp pincer at the end. They then suck out the gray matter after "chewing" it with the pincers. Then the fungi they use as a home (Lethifold mushroom, Necros vegitans narcus) will uproot its root net and envelope the corpse and devour it. These fungi are often found near campsites, as they will not hesitate to smother and ingest a sleeping person.
